Trying to cut back on bread is challenging, here is a fun a simple recipe you can try and adapt to suit your needs. Psyllium fiber is a soluble dietary fiber with clinically demonstrated health benefits.

Use of psyllium in the diet for three weeks or longer often lowers blood cholesterol levels in people with elevated cholesterol, and can lower blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Use of psyllium for a month or longer may produce a small reduction in systolic blood pressure.

Fiber is good for you because it is not absorbed, instead helps move food through your digestive system and other health benefits.

Ketogenic (Keto) Bread

Versatile low-carb, gluten-free, keto bread featuring psyllium fiber can also be used for BBQ hot dog or hamburger buns or even for garlic bread.

Yield: 6 rolls

Ingredients

  • 1.25 cups (5 oz) almond flour
  • 1/3 cup (1.75 oz) ground psyllium husk powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tsp cider vinegar
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds optional topping

Instructions

Preheat oven 350°F (175°C); also boil the water.

  1. Place dry ingredients in a bowl; Add vinegar and egg whites, mix.
  2. Add the boiling water, blending with a hand mixer for 30 seconds. Dough should remain thick.
  3. Shape dough into 6 rolls. (Tip: Apply a little olive oil to hands first.)
  4. Place on a greased baking sheet. Top with optional sesame seeds.
  5. Bake on lower rack in the oven for 50–60 minutes; rolls should be a bit firm on bottom.
  6. Top and serve as wish.

Prep Time: 15 minutes, Cook time: 1 hour

6 Ways You Overeat (that you can easily overcome)

You know what’s good for you to eat and you know what’s bad. You may not be the strictest dieter, but you generally follow the rules. Why is it then that you still gain weight? Are you sabotaging yourself or is there something else going on that you aren't aware of? The answers to these questions are surprising facts you need to know to help you stop gaining extra pounds.

  1. Don’t Let Your Senses Fool You

    If you’ve ever told someone you can’t smell fast food without gaining weight, you know what this is all about — and there is some truth to that. The sight or smell of food can trigger your hunger and make you crave it and want more of it. Keeping bad foods out of sight, out of reach and far from your olfactory senses can prevent that desire to overeat.

  2. Pay Attention to What You Eat

    Watching what you eat takes on a whole new meaning when you learn that eating while distracted can cause you to overeat. If your mind is elsewhere, it may not register that you are filling your stomach. Be sure to drop the multitasking and turn off the TV while you eat so that your body knows when it is truly satisfied.

  3. Make It Exciting

    Not only can alcoholic beverages add unnecessary calories to your diet, it can stimulate your appetite. Too much of it can impair your judgement — and cause you to overeat. Limiting your intake or steering clear of it keeps those unwanted calories away.

  6. Keep warm

    Colder temperatures make you want to eat more and your metabolism drops (just think how cool restaurants are kept). Regulate your hunger by keeping the temps in your own home warm and not too cool.

A study presented at an international obesity conference in Amsterdam organized by the European Association for the Study of Obesity explains that the obesity epidemic in the U.S. is due to over-eating, and that exercise could not minimize the effects of excess calories.

[To return to 1970s levels] …children would have to cut their intake by about 350 calories a day … and adults by about 500 calories… [equivalent to over 2 hours of exercise per day.]

Research shows that a decrease in physical exercise is not the primary cause of obesity. It also appears, based on the research, that even though adults step up physical exercise, that it does not negate weight gain caused by over-eating. It was also discovered that changes in physical activity in children had no impact on their gaining weight.

For the US population to return to its leaner, 1970s self, children would have to cut their intake by about 350 calories a day -- equal to one can of fizzy drink and a small portion of French fries, and adults by about 500 calories -- the equivalent of a Big Mac burger.

Alternatively, children would have to walk for an extra two-and-a-half hours a day, and adults for nearly two hours, said Swinburn.

“Getting everybody to walk an extra two hours a day is not really a feasible option for countering the epidemic,” he said.

“We need to limit our expectations of what an increase in physical activity can achieve.”
